The Aims of the lesson:

Aims:

  • To discover that different parts of the world have different climates.
  • To predict the weather from the climate.
  • And compare the predicted weather with the actual weather.
  • To map weather onto a world map using location knowledge.

Outline the methods used for preparing and running the lesson:

  • We initially researched this topic area by surfing the Internet using search engines.
  • We selected the appropriate web pages links that we wished to include on the web-page, which was created by Mr Sutton.
  • We then designed the worksheet using Microsoft Word to work in accordance with the web page.
  • We used the SMART board throughout the lesson; to highlight the aim of the lesson; to demonstrate how to access the information; and to review the lesson.

Review of the lesson:

The aims of the lesson were completed, but not necessarily to the level that we expected. There are many probable reasons for this. The computers were surprising slow to down load the data, due to a fault in the system. However, this could of actually worked in our advantage as it stopped web site flicking. Additionally, the workload appeared too much for set five. However, this allowed for differentiation as the more able could proceed further if necessary.

It helped that to progress through the worksheet the previous tasks did not have to be fully completed, because it only required some of the data. This allowed us to continue with are planned time structure for the lesson.

The SMART BOARD was used throughout the lesson to demonstrate what the pupils will be doing. This was very effective. It drew their attention and they better understood because they could relate to what was happening.

To conclude, the lesson went well; all the pupils were interested and stayed on task throughout. Class management was good but difficult, and would have been improved if IMPERATA were used since it was difficult to get their attention away from the computers.
